Online Crediting of Learning (Assessment) – Wood Badge Skills (Section)

Online Crediting of Learning (Assessment) – Wood Badge Skills (Section)

Following Transformation in November 2024 and the changes to learning within the Volunteer Experience, the Wood Badge has become optional and available to all. In addition, you can only work towards and earn one Wood Badge.

The current* learning required to complete the Wood Badge is a combination of all the assigned Growing Roots learning plus six further skills. The learning for these skills is completed either through an in person or virtual course or, by demonstration that all the required skills are held from previous experiences or external sources.

[* During 2025 /2026, we will see these skills being replaced by Branching Out]

If you have not already done so, you will need to assign a Wood Badge (Section) to your Learning Profile. If you are unsure as to how to do this, please look at the Digital Tools Guide for this topic on the Scouts Website, click HERE

Following completion of learning (or consideration that the learning is known), the member must seek an assessment (crediting) of the learning to show how it is applied in their Scouting role.

The six areas are

  • Module 8 – Skills of Leadership
  • Module 9 – Working with Adults
  • Module 13 – Growing the Section
  • Module 16 – Introduction to Residential Experiences
  • Module 18 – Practical Skills
  • Module 19 – International

On each page you will find a series of links to web-based assessment questions

Please keep your responses brief, use bullet points where this will help. You can upload any supporting documents; plans, programmes, risk assessments, feedback etc but please respect confidentiality. In your responses, where asked for, please focus your answers on the part or element that you personally played or contributed.

All boxes with an asterisk * need to be completed otherwise the file will not send. Any such areas requiring completion after a submit attempt will be highlighted with a white cross in a red circle.

All completed and submitted forms will be reviewed by a member with a Learning Assessor Accreditation in your District and they will arrange to contact you if they think it necessary. If the crediting criteria are met, the member with a  Learning Assessor Accreditation will let you know and update your learning record. The responsibility for this lies with the District Volunteering Development Team and you should direct any questions or queries to them in the first instance.
